Final Days — April 24-26, 2026
International Student Fellowship
The Final Days Were Busy
Friday
Friday, we went on a boat ride in the South China Sea. Many of the rock formations on the shore reminded us of Oregon. Our hosts took us out for a couple of Hong Kong specialties we had not experienced yet, Bubble Tea and Pineapple Bread.
That evening, the Clearwater Bay School of Ministry began. Pastor Scott taught Hermeneutics, the science and art of Biblical interpretation, while Paul Mayhugh taught the same course in Mandarin. Between the classes, they had about 25 students on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon.
Ricky and Meghan helped with the English Corner on the HKUST campus. It was similar to the one at HKBU that we helped with on Wednesday, only with fewer students.
Saturday
During the School of Ministry, Kenia cooked a Mexican meal that the students loved. They broke into applause when she entered the room after lunch! That night, Clearwater Bay held their very first Mandarin worship service, which most of the team stayed for. They had 15 Mandarin speakers at the service and were very pleased with the turnout. Ricky and Scott attended the International Student Fellowship and joined a discussion on vocational Christian work. There are some very sharp young people in the group who may want to serve that way.
Sunday
Alicia taught the children in AWANA before church. They have many children who come to AWANA but leave before church, so it is an especially strategic ministry. During the church service, Paul pointed out how New Life had sent him to Asia and had also sent our hosts. He highlighted that New Life has sent two generations of missionaries to that part of the world. Words can hardly express what a blessing it was to reflect on 30 years of ministry in which God not only sustained our church but helped us send missionaries. There is a healthy church in Hong Kong and a couple in Macau, thanks to you! Now the church in Hong Kong wants to be a sending church like New Life! In the afternoon, while Pastor Scott finished the School of Ministry, the ladies on the team made the trek to The Peak. They enjoyed breathtaking views of the city.
Monday was 39 hours long. I ate 7 meals, and we made it home safely! Thank you for your prayers!
