Genesis

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Talk Sheet Questions

  1. What do you think it means that humans are made “in the image of God”? How is that different from the way God made animals or the rest of creation?

  2. What does God say about Himself when he is making mankind? Do you notice anything interesting about the first sentence in verse 26?

  3. God gave people a big job to watch over His world (Genesis 1:26, ESV). What’s one way you can help take care of God’s creation?

  4. Why do you think God gave humans the responsibility to rule over (“have dominion”) the fish, birds, and every living thing? What does that say about our responsibility in God’s world?

  5. What is one thing you need to change to live out an understanding that all people, male and female, are made in the image of God?

  6. How should knowing that every person is made in the image of God affect the way you speak to and treat people you disagree with, or people who are very different from you?
