Scott Reavely,
Senior Pastor
Scott Reavely grew up in small towns in Montana. He and his wife, Marcia, started attending
New Life Church in August, 1986, when they moved to the Portland area to study at Western
Seminary. He started working as a part-time youth pastor in 1988, moving to full-time the
next year and later becoming an associate pastor. Scott became Senior Pastor in 1993.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Montana State University, and has just completed
a Doctorate of Ministry at Western Seminary.
The focus of our church’s mission statement on treasuring God grew out of Pastor Scott’s personal
experience. In 1996 he and Marcia lost a stillborn daughter. In 2001 they lost a son in a
similar event. Through these two events they came to treasure God in the words of the psalmist,
Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire beside You (Psalm 73:25). “I realize
God will sometimes go to great lengths to be the treasure of our hearts, and sometimes he won’t.
My mission in life is to help people find God for their treasure.”
When Scott is not busy at church, he is usually busy with his kids’ sports teams and has coached
volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, football and wrestling. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at
Western Seminary.
Scott and Marcia have been married since 1985 and have five children. Marcia is a full-time homemaker
and home school teacher, is active singing and playing the piano in the Worship Band on Sunday mornings.
She is a source of wise advice for many women as they seek to honor Christ in their homes.
Nathan Pylate,
Robinwood Pastor
Nathan and his wife, Sara, have been with us since January of 2000 when he came to Oregon
to work on his Master of Divinity degree at Western Seminary . They both hail originally
from Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Baylor University. While
in seminary, Nathan served as an Assistant Pastor here, working with small groups, coordinating
membership classes and occasionally preaching on Sunday mornings. When he graduated he
was hired on full-time as our first Church-Planting Pastor. In the fall of 2005 he led
the team that started our first new location, New Life Robinwood.
When he isn’t working at planting churches, Nathan enjoys spending time with his daughter,
Julie, and son, Hudson. Nathan and Sara also have a special heart for abused kids. They
have been temporary parents to several of these precious children in recent years. The
Pylate family also enjoys hiking, camping, reading, and good food!
Bill Kramer, Associate Pastor
After over 30 years of ministry, both in missionary work with
Cadence International
and in pastoral ministry in Texas and Iowa, Bill Kramer "semi-retired" to join our
staff at the beginning of 2004. Bill's work here includes visitation, men's ministries,
discipleship and teaching. He earned two different Bible diplomas from Multnomah
Bible College in 1964 and 1975. Bill and his wife Jeanette have been married for
34 years and have one grown son who lives in Texas.
Matt Vorhees, Youth Pastor
Matt Vorhees was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. Jesus Christ intercepted his life at age 19,
after which he became heavily involved in a college-aged ministry. It was there that Matt met Alicia,
now his wife and best friend. They were married on August 29, 2003, and a year later Matt
graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering
and Alicia with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling from
The Master’s College.
Several years prior to graduating from Cal Poly, Matt felt called of God to pastoral ministry and seminary.
In response to this call, Matt and Alicia moved to Portland, OR in the fall of 2004, so that Matt could
pursue a Master of Divinity degree from Western Seminary and Alicia could pursue her Master’s in School
Counseling at Lewis and Clark College. They bought their first house in July of 2005 and now reside in
Oregon City. Matt has been the Youth Pastor at New Life Church since March 8, 2006.
Matt enjoys sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball and extreme sports like snowboarding and wake boarding.
Matt and Alicia enjoy watching movies together, eating out, taking walks, vacationing, working out, and spending time
with the youth group and friends.
